The Real Reason You're Bloated Every Day (And Why It's Probably Not the Foods You're Eating)

You cut out gluten.
Then dairy.
Then alcohol.
Maybe you tried a food sensitivity test that told you to avoid 27 different foods.
You've taken probiotics, digestive enzymes, greens powders, and every "gut health" supplement that TikTok or Instagram has recommended.
And yet… you're still bloated.
If this sounds familiar, you're not alone.
One of the most common complaints I hear from clients is:
"I feel bloated no matter what I eat."

The truth is, chronic bloating is rarely a sign that your body simply "doesn't like" a long list of foods.
More often, bloating is your body's way of telling you that something deeper is going on in the gut.
As a PharmD and holistic health practitioner, I don't believe in chasing symptoms or endlessly eliminating foods. I believe in finding the root cause.
Because once you understand WHY you're bloated, you can finally stop guessing and start healing.
Most People Are Looking in the Wrong Place
When bloating becomes a daily struggle, most people immediately assume food is the problem.
They start removing foods one by one.
First gluten.
Then dairy.
Then sugar.
Then grains.
Before they know it, they're eating five foods and still feeling miserable.
The problem is that food is often not the root cause.
If you've been eating certain foods your entire life and suddenly your body starts reacting to them, I want to know what changed.
Why is your digestive system struggling now?
Why is your body reacting differently?
Those are the questions that actually matter.
Why I Don't Rely on Food Sensitivity Testing

This may be controversial, but I am not a fan of most food sensitivity testing.
Many people spend hundreds of dollars on tests that come back with long lists of foods they're supposedly "sensitive" to.
The result?
More fear around food.
More restrictions.
More confusion.
And often very little improvement.
In many cases, these tests don't tell us why you're reacting. They simply tell us that your immune system has been exposed to certain foods.
What I care about is identifying the underlying reason your body may be reacting in the first place.
Because if we don't address the root cause, symptoms often return no matter how many foods you remove.
Rather than asking, "Which foods should we eliminate next?"
I prefer asking: "What is happening in the gut that's causing these reactions?"
The 4 Most Common Root Causes of Chronic Bloating
1. Dysbiosis
Your digestive tract is home to trillions of bacteria.
When beneficial bacteria become depleted and less desirable bacteria begin to thrive, it can create an imbalance known as dysbiosis.
This imbalance can contribute to:
Bloating
Gas
Constipation
Diarrhea
Brain fog
Skin issues
Food reactions
Fatigue
Many people focus on treating symptoms without realizing that the ecosystem inside the gut may be completely out of balance.
Until that imbalance is addressed, symptoms often continue to return.
2. H. pylori
One of the most overlooked root causes of chronic digestive symptoms is H. pylori.
H. pylori is a bacteria that can live in the stomach and interfere with normal digestion.
Some people experience symptoms such as:
Bloating
Reflux
Burping
Nausea
Upper abdominal discomfort
Feeling full quickly after eating
What's tricky is that many people have no idea it's present.
They spend years treating symptoms without ever identifying the underlying issue.
I've seen clients experience significant improvements once we uncover and properly address this hidden infection.
*And just a reminder the BEST way to test for this is NOT a breath test, but a stool test like the GI Map!
3. Low Stomach Acid
This is another root cause that is frequently overlooked.
Many people assume symptoms like reflux, indigestion, or bloating are caused by too much stomach acid.
In reality, low stomach acid can sometimes contribute to these same symptoms.
Stomach acid plays an essential role in:
Breaking down protein
Absorbing nutrients
Supporting digestion
Protecting against unwanted microbes
When stomach acid production is compromised, digestion becomes less efficient and symptoms can begin to appear.
This is one reason why simply taking another supplement isn't always the answer. We first need to understand what is happening inside the digestive system.
4. Chronic Stress & Nervous System Dysfunction
You cannot talk about gut health without talking about stress.
Your gut and nervous system are constantly communicating.
When your body spends most of its time in fight-or-flight mode, digestion is no longer a priority.
The body shifts resources away from digestion and toward survival.
Over time this can contribute to:
Bloating
Constipation
Poor digestion
Reflux
Increased gut inflammation
Many of the women I work with are juggling careers, families, workouts, responsibilities, and endless to-do lists while running on caffeine and stress.
The reality is that healing the gut often requires supporting the nervous system as well.
The Biggest Mistake I See People Make
The biggest mistake I see is jumping straight to supplements without understanding what's actually causing the symptoms.
I completely understand the temptation.
When you're uncomfortable every day, you want relief.
But taking random probiotics, gut powders, cleanses, or supplements without identifying the root cause often leads to frustration and wasted money.
The same supplement that helps one person could do absolutely nothing for another.
That's because symptoms do not tell the whole story.
Two people can have identical bloating and completely different underlying causes.
That's why I focus on data, not guesswork.
How I Actually Investigate Gut Issues
When a client comes to me with chronic bloating, I want to understand the full picture.
We look at:
Health history
Current symptoms
Diet
Lifestyle
Stress levels
Previous lab work
Digestive patterns
And when appropriate, I often recommend GI Mapping.
What Is GI Mapping?

GI Mapping is an advanced stool test that provides a detailed look at what's happening inside the gut.
Rather than guessing, we can gather valuable information that helps guide a more personalized approach.
GI Mapping can provide insight into:
H. pylori
Bacterial imbalances
Opportunistic bacteria
Parasites
Digestive function
Gut inflammation
Immune activity
Overall microbiome health
This information helps us understand what may be contributing to symptoms and allows us to create a plan based on what your body actually needs.
Why Generic Gut Protocols Often Fail
One of the biggest myths in the wellness space is that everyone needs the same gut protocol.
The truth is that two people with bloating can have completely different root causes.
One person may be dealing with H. pylori.
Another may have significant bacterial imbalances.
Someone else may be struggling primarily with chronic stress and poor digestion.
This is why following generic protocols from social media often leads to disappointment.
Real healing requires personalization.
You Don't Have To Accept Bloating As Normal
If you're bloated every day, constantly uncomfortable after meals, struggling with digestive symptoms, or feeling frustrated by the lack of answers, please know that your symptoms are not something you simply have to live with.
Your body is trying to communicate with you.
The goal isn't to keep removing more foods or buying more supplements.
The goal is to understand what your body is asking for and address the root cause.
